Memorable Hikers

How can we celebrate them?

This is a significant recognition of their invaluable contributions to the outdoor community. This multifaceted acknowledgment celebrates their passion and tireless efforts in enhancing the hiking experience for enthusiasts worldwide.

The National Hiking Roll of Honour stands as a distinguished testament to the remarkable achievements of these individuals. Their names, alongside their notable accomplishments, are prominently displayed on the National Hiking Trail website Roll of Honour, ensuring widespread recognition and appreciation for their impactful work.

Each honouree is awarded a certificate commemorating their induction into the National Hiking Roll of Honour, a tangible testament to their enduring legacy and dedication to advancing hiking and trail culture.

The recognition journey also dedicates a one-kilometre section of the trail. It culminates in an exclusive award recognition ceremony hosted by a local Hiking Group or Club, where honourees are celebrated among peers and supporters. This intimate gathering provides an opportunity to reflect on their achievements and share experiences with fellow enthusiasts.

Moreover, honourees are invited to attend a biannual National Roll of Honour Recognition Ceremony conducted via Zoom, where their names are formally announced before an audience of peers and admirers. This virtual gathering serves as a platform to acknowledge their contributions on a national scale and reaffirm their place of honour within the hiking community.

Through these comprehensive acknowledgments, Honouring Hikers who have made outstanding contributions to trail development, organization, and promotion is celebrated, esteemed, and immortalized for their invaluable impact on the hiking world.

Commendation – example below

I am delighted to provide a commendation for Lisa Martel, an avid and responsible hiker whose passion for the outdoors is truly commendable. She grew up in Alberta and has made a significant commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. Lisa Martel has worked diligently on the development of the Ironbridge trail over the past twenty years, despite numerous jurisdictional hurdles.

Lisa Martel has consistently demonstrated a thorough understanding of trail etiquette and Leave No Trace principles, ensuring minimal impact on the natural surroundings. She has also used her enthusiasm and drive to educate fellow hikers about responsible hiking practices and promote a sense of camaraderie on the trail.

We therefore commend her to be accepted into the National Hikers Roll of Honour.

The Submission

The commendation is submitted to the Hike Canada En Marche Roll of Honour Committee for scrutiny to ensure it meets the required standards for inclusion in the Roll of Honour.
